May 5 concert in New York City to benefit Christian studies center in Ithaca

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Grammy Award winner and bassist John Patitucci, philosopher William Edgar and a cast of talented musicians will present an evening journey of music and history to benefit Chesterton House, a center for Christian studies affiliated with Cornell University and located in Ithaca, N.Y.

The benefit event is titled Heaven in a Nightclub, in which the African-American experience of misery and hope will emerge in spirituals, ragtime, blues and jazz. This event, sponsored by Chesterton House, is open to the public, and will take place at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 5, at the Society for Ethical Culture, 2 W. 64th St. at Central Park West in Manhattan.

Other guests will include acclaimed vocalist and recording artist Ruth Naomi Floyd and saxophonist Joe Salzano. The master of ceremonies will be Andy Crouch, editorial director for The Christian Vision Project at Christianity Today.

Chesterton House, located at 604 E. Buffalo St. in Ithaca, is a Christian Studies Center and an affiliate of Cornell United Religious Work.
